Matatirtha Aunsi (मातातीर्थ औंसी), It is celebrated in the month of Baisakh (April/May) and is seen as a link between the worlds of Deva Lok, Pitri Lok, and Prithvi Lok. It is regarded extremely significant to remember, meet, and express affection to one’s mother on this day, as well as to give charity, even if it is for the benefit of others.
Also known as Aamako Mukh Herne Din (आमाको मुख हेर्ने दिन) is a Nepali celebration dedicated to honoring mothers for their love, sacrifice, and life support.
Matatirtha Aunsi (मातातीर्थ औंसी) (Mother’s Day) is not associated with any one faith or culture. Many communities around the country commemorate this occasion. In Nepal, Mother’s Day is a tradition rather than a holiday celebrated by a specific group or community. This day is seen to be particularly lucky.

Mothers, in other words, are gods. Mothers are living gods in our world, and mothers who have abandoned their children are also immortal.
In the most Holy Writ, Mother is given a higher status than the Father. It is normal for youngsters to receive blessings from their mothers in the form of delicious food and nice garments in this manner.
This day is known as Mother’s Day because of the extraordinary love and emotional respect offered to mothers. Mata Tirtha Aunsi, Matri Aunsi, and Mother’s Day are all names for the same hour. On Mother’s Day, a day to honor and remember her. “Mother” is the world’s most holy connection, and ‘Mother’ is the world’s most sacred address.
Children express their gratitude to their Mothers on this day. They bathe in holy water, pray for their mother, and present gifts and sweets to her.
Those who have lost their mothers travel to Matatirtha to celebrate. They perform Shradhha and Sida Daan after taking a holy bath (a holy mixture of rice grain and pure food materials along with clothes).

स्नात्वा करोतिम य्: श्राद्धं माघो: कृष्णकुहौ दिने ।
वियोग न भवेन्मातु: वार्धक्येऽपी सुनिश्चितंम ।।
तृप्ता भवति तन्माता स्नानमात्रेण चात्र वै ।
ऋण: प्रमुच्यते सद्धो मातृगर्भस्थितोभ्दवै ।।
Meaning
On Baisakh Krishna Aunshi, those who take a holy bath in the Mata Tirtha Pond do not need to enter their mother’s womb again for the future life. From human life, one can obtain salvation and moksha.
Mata Tirtha Pond
Matatirtha is derived from two Sanskrit words: “Mata” which means Mother, and “Tirtha” which means sacred location. The VDC gets its name from a sacred pond dedicated to Mother in the VDC. Matatirtha is a sacred site known for its religious significance and ideals. Every year on Mother’s Day, tens of thousands of people come to commemorate the occasion. Only those without a mother are allowed to bathe in the sacred pond or perform religious rites in the temple. People of various faiths come to worship and pray there.
Matatirtha is located at former Village Development Committee in Kathmandu District, Province 3 of Nepal. It is now part of Chandragiri Municipality which 9 Kilometers South West of Kathmandu.
Mata Tirtha Pond has a story behind it.
A boy used to take his cows to graze near the pond, according to another report. Whenever he began to eat his lunch, a small portion of it fell into the pond. For a long period, this kept happening. The youngster peered into the pond one day to see what was going on. Surprisingly, he discovered his mother, who had passed away, in the pond.
The Mother was invited to accompany him home by the boy. He persisted and began crying, pleading with her to accompany him home. However, she said that she was already dead and that it was impossible to return home after someone died. She did say, however, that she would visit the pond every year on Baishakh Krishna Aunshi (No-moon day of Baishakh). He returned after agreeing. Every year on the same day, he began going to the pond to see his Mother.
On the same day, several individuals began to visit the pond to meet their mothers. It was reportedly said that a woman visiting the pond wished to see her dead mother’s picture, but when she couldn’t after a long wait, she leaped into the water and drowned. The deceased folks haven’t been spotted in the pond since the lady committed suicide in it.
