Bhaktapur. On the occasion of Indra Jatra, the famed traditional Mupatra Jatra has begun in Bhaktapur.
This Jatra is celebrated independently from other Jatras and as an unique Demon Jatra. Every year, from Ashwin Krishna Dritiya to Chauthi, this procession is held. Three people, including the primary demon Mupatra and two other auxiliary demons named Dhi:Cha, are decorated with different colors in the form of a demon and carry a sword across Bhaktapur city during the parade.
The Manandhars of Sakulan Tole light Two Yamata (Akash Deep) at the Bhimsen Temple in Dattatraya before departing for the Mupatra Jatra. Sanla Ganesh of Tachpal is housed in a khat and disseminated across Bhaktapur city on the first day of Mupatra.
The Yama:Dyo, which is standing on the toll road, is turned three times by the Mupatra and struck with the sword during the parade when the Mupatra is brought throughout the city.
